The Karragullen Expo celebrated its 30th year on Saturday 12th October 2013. It is conducted by the Hills Orchard Improvement Group. The event was a great success and is thought to have been the best ever. A tremendous amount of planning went into this event by Roma Spiccia and the rest of a very hard working Committee. The Pickering Brook Heritage Group participated for the fourth time, displaying their heritage photo displays and the computers demonstrating the Website. A lot of interest was shown and many new leads and family contacts were made.

The Pickering Brook Heritage Group conduct for the first time, a "Heritage Photographic Competition for Schoolchildren. The image had to have a heritage theme and to be taken by the child themselves. It was very succesfull with twenty entries promised but only eleven made the close off date. The judging was conducted by a professional photographer who was very impressed with the standard and had great difficulty in deciding. However the winner was Geordie Cole-Radice with a photograph taken of an old Metters Stove in the ruins of a pioneer's house on Merrivale Road. Congatulations on this great shot, well done. All entries are shown in the "Events Section" of this website. Because of the interest shown and the success of the event it will now be held annually. BEVEN FERNIE & SUSAN DELLA FRANCA #6

The highlight of The Pickering Brook Heritage Group display was a scale model of the Karragullen Railway Station c1930. After months of research and scouring old maps, photos, documents and interviewing old local identities, Kelvin Davis from Wattle Grove hand built this model. It is as close to accurate as possible from the information gathered. The detail put into this brilliant model was a real credit to Kelvin. Kevin was keen to met anyone at the Karragullen Expo that may further the data he has gathered. He spent a lot of time talking to Ted Smailes and David Lewis, about what they remembered about the railway and the terminal at Karragullen. We will again have this model on display at the 2014 Karragullen Expo. So if you missed it this year make sure you visit it in 2014.
